The development of Research 101

Background to our research project

We created and delivered the original training course to a small group of autistic individuals who had an interest in participating in autism research. The training was well received (see here for more details). We made changes to the training based on trainees’ feedback.

We then delivered the revised training to three groups of autistic people as part of a research project. Two groups were already collaborating on an autism research project. One group was interested in collaborating in research but had not yet had an experience of being a research collaborator, nor had an immediate opportunity to collaborate. Of the 17 people who were trained, 14 consented to be interviewed for the research. Their feedback was incorporated into this final version. We received funding to hire a graphic designer to create representations of the stages of the research project and create the PowerPoint template for the training.
