LEANS evaluation study preprint

Now available: A free preprint of the paper reporting the 2021 LEANS evaluation study.

We are very pleased to announce that the paper reporting on our 2021 LEANS evaluation study in schools is now available to the public as a preprint on Open Science Framework (OSF). This report explains how we conducted the study and our results, and has additional quantitative information to what was already available on our evaluation webpage.

What is a pre-print?

We know that many people interested in LEANS may not have heard of preprints, or have heard but don’t know what they are! Preprints are versions of academic articles that are not yet published by a journal or other venue. They have not yet been through the peer review process (in which researchers effectively grade each other’s work and judge its validity and quality), and have not yet been accepted for publication by an academic journal. Not all pre-prints will be accepted as papers, or they may undergo significant editing before publication. For example, it is common for reviewers to ask for more clarification/explanation on things, but they may also request much bigger changes.

This LEANS pre-print has been submitted to a journal for review—but that is a process that can take many months at best. Using a pre-print server allows us to make the work available as soon as it is finished, so others can see and cite it.

We are still at work on papers reporting earlier stages of the project, around our design process.
