Event and speaking policies

LEANS end-of-funding policy on events and speaking engagements.

LEANS project funding ended in December 2023. The end of project funding means that we no longer have any staff members. As a result, our policies have needed to change with respect to talks and events, as well as related activities like contributing writing on LEANS, appearing on podcasts, etc.

Event participation and talks

As a default, we will need to decline future invitations for talks and events. We may be able to make a limited number of exceptions where there is a particularly strong opportunity to promote LEANS and neurodiversity understanding. We are more likely to be able to make an exception where one or more of the following apply:

  • Event is online
  • Larger audiences; audiences made up of decision-makers
  • Organisers offer a speaking fee to cover our team members’ preparation and participation
  • Flexibility over dates or times

If you are looking for a general LEANS talk, please keep in mind that there are alternatives, such as the recorded talks linked from our talks and media page (all free), or contacting a LEANS Champion, some of whom are willing to participate in events.

Writing and other content requests

Before contacting us, please check our talks and media page (all free), and our publications to see if we have already created other content that may overlap with what you have in mind. For example, we have written multiple short articles aimed at education professionals.

We are considering requests for LEANS-related writing and other content on a case-by-case basis, and (as with events) will need to decline many of them. We are more likely to be able to make an exception where one or more of the following apply:

  • Larger platforms and/or audiences; audiences made up of decision-makers
  • Some flexibility over formats and/or deadline
  • Fee to cover our team members’ preparation and participation

Commissioning training or consultancy

If you are interested in commissioning training or consultancy, you are still very welcome to contact us about this as usual.

For media or press enquiries, please contact press.office@ed.ac.uk. When contacting, please clearly specify that this is a LEANS project enquiry, related to the Salvesen Mindroom Research Centre in the Department of Psychiatry.
